This morning, a friend and I woke up to watch the sun rise. With hot chocolate mugs and blankies in hand, we hiked up Mt. Bebe in darkness. Soon, the darkness began to fade and the evidence of the sun was beginning to show. Before we could realize it was happening, the sun proved its faithfulness once again. Even while we may have wondered if the sun was going to come up today, it exploded with light across the horizon.
Isn't that just like our Jesus?
Look at how Luke 23:55-24:12 accounts of the doubt people had in Jesus's faithfulness:
"Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? "He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened."
When Jesus spoke about how His time was done on earth, many people listened to Him but failed to really hear and believe what He was saying. They doubted the faithfulness of His words. And treating His death as if were any other permanent death, some of His disciples went to anoint His body. They didn't believe Jesus when He said that He wasn't going to stay dead for long.
While many people don't believe the Words our Savior has spoken and continues to speak through His Word and the Holy Spirit, they are in fact True. And He will prove them to be true. So whether or not you believe you're the bride of Christ, you are. Whether or not you believe you were fearfully and wonderfully made, you were. Whether or not you believe you were chosen by God, you were. It's still true that the God of both the universe and the Maker of the blades of grass desires and seeks after your soul. He is jealous for you. He anticipates your return to Him and He can't wait for you to give your life to Him fully. Like how the sun breaks darkness, the Son wants to explode with Light into your life in the most breathtakingly beautiful way. Real Christianity is an explosion: it is impossible to remain unchanged as result of walking into its flame.
