"The same power the conquered the grave lives in me. The same love that rescued the earth lives in me."
Wait, wait, wait.
What?
Read it again.
How easy is it to read over Bible "stories" quickly--stories that, ahem, are not actually stories but real accounts of real events? We should fall over in great bedazzlement upon reading any single account of anything God did EVER. Wasn't it AMAZING when God created a planet and filled it with remarkable creatures? Doesn't it stop you in your tracks that God used a man of flesh to build a gargantuan boat to house two of every species of animal? Skipping a few years, doesn't it blow you away that God created a strip of dry land in the MIDDLE OF A RUSHING RIVER for His people to walk safely upon? Does your jaw drop when you remember how God made a little baby grow in a virgin? Does your mind whirl when you read about how that little baby grew into a little boy who grew into a man who never sinned? Does it amaze you that God sent that man to die on the cross once and for all? What about when this Man died? Did it amaze you that He, too, like many of the lives He touched, was raised from the dead? BUT GUESS WHAT? The same Power that did all of that stuff--brace yourself--LIVES IN ME! The same Love that was given to the world through the blood of Christ--here we go again--LIVES IN ME!!!!!!!!!
Remember all of the stuff the disciples did WHILE JESUS WAS WITH THEM? Casting demons out, feeding thousands, raising the dead--and they didn't have the Holy Spirit!!
...and we do.
WE HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT!!
I don't think we really understand that the same Power and Love the conquered the grave and rescued the earth LIVES IN US.
Mull over this idea: the disciples performed many miracles without the Holy Spirit living in them, and the greatest "miracle" we perform in life is maybe waking up for church on Sunday or serving at a soup kitchen every five years all while we hold the Holy Spirit captive.
We are so selfish.
